"You don’t just prepare for the SSB — you prepare to meet the best version of yourself."

Meet Shreesha: From Bangalore to the Navy's NAIC

Born and brought up in Bangalore, Shreesha completed his schooling and engineering from CMR Institute of Technology, before stepping into the corporate world. He worked for 3 years in domains like EdTech and SaaS. But somewhere deep inside, a dream was taking root. That dream was born near the ASC Training Centre, an Army area close to his home, where he would often see uniformed personnel — a sight that never failed to inspire him. Though physical limitations like height and spectacles initially made him question his eligibility, a chance encounter during his college days changed everything. A Navy officer visiting his campus for an event opened his eyes to the multiple entry options in the armed forces, even for candidates with specs.

How the Dream Took Shape

Although his specs disqualified him from NDA, he later became eligible under certain vision limits and discovered Short Service Commission in the Naval Armament Inspectorate Cadre (SSC-NAIC). His focus and passion realigned — and the goal was set. He gave six attempts, getting screened out and conference out repeatedly. But instead of walking away, he decided to walk deeper — into self-discovery.

The Turning Point: Attempt #6 and the Mindset Shift

After repeated rejections, Shreesha realized that he was trying too hard to become someone else. In his earlier attempts, he tried to copy every strategy and mannerism he learned — especially from mentors.“In my Bhopal attempt, I tried to be exactly like Shashank Sir — and failed. The learning was right, but the application had to be mine.”
That moment of realization marked his transformation. He stopped imitating and started owning his preparation.

What Made This Attempt Different

Shreesha chose to go into the SSB unfiltered, honest, and true to himself. He allowed his emotional intelligence to guide him rather than weigh him down. In earlier attempts, he used to:

  • Put interviewers on a pedestal
  • Struggle with inferiority complex
  • Let negative emotions derail his focus
But this time, he remembered what he learned from R2R’s psych classes:

“If you're digging an emotional pit — don’t fall into it, jump over it.”
He didn’t suppress his emotions. Instead, he channeled them positively and used them as tools of resilience and authenticity.

Handling the SSB Psychology with a Personal Touch

Shreesha is an emotionally receptive person, and earlier, he used to view that as a weakness. At R2R, he realized emotions are a strength, if directed well. “After the psychology classes, I stopped feeling lost. I started seeing clarity even in confusion.”Through exercises, mock discussions, and introspective guidance, he polished his dominant traits while accepting the parts he used to hide.

His Strategy for PPTT and Lecturette

For PPTT, Shreesha focused on imaginative yet grounded stories. He practiced different scenarios, ensured logical flow, and worked on confident narration. For lecturette, he used a smart hack:“Practice in front of a mirror, as if you're already in the interview.”He visualized the entire environment — timer, GTO, and group — and built muscle memory for clarity and poise.

How R2R Helped Him Redefine Himself

Shreesha joined R2R before his 4th attempt — and it changed the course of his journey. What stood out for him?

  • Clarity on self-awareness through psych sessions
  • 1-on-1 mentorship and mock interviews with Shashank Sir, often late into the night
  • Emotional support that never felt mechanical — “like talking to an elder brother”
  • Recorded lectures that gave him flexibility
  • Community support (Telegram group during his time)
“I used to worship the interviewer. R2R helped me see we’re both human, just two people talking. That one shift changed everything.”
