    The DoT mandated pre-installation of Sanchar Saathi on all smartphones sold from March 2026 to curb mobile fraud. The app will verify IMEI, block stolen devices and reduce scam calls. India saw 2.48 lakh telecom-fraud complaints in a year.

  • Parts of India may get more ‘cold wave’ days this year: IMD
    IMD predicts increased cold-wave days across northern and central India due to weather patterns and lower minimum temperatures. While overall winter temperatures may be near normal, more intense cold spells are expected in northwest, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

  • Centre says U.P. reported maximum complaints over Jal Jeevan Mission projects
    Over 17,000 complaints on poor-quality work and irregularities under the Jal Jeevan Mission were reported, with UP accounting for 84%. Action was taken against officials and contractors. Issues included road restoration delays, pipeline damage and substandard construction.

DRDO conducts high-speed test of fighter escape system
DRDO successfully tested an indigenous fighter aircraft escape system using a rocket-sled at Chandigarh’s Rail Track Rocket Sled facility. The trial validated canopy severance, ejection sequencing, and recovery, conducted with HAL and ADA, marking a major milestone in India's aircraft safety technology.


New complex housing PMO to be called ‘Seva Teerth’

The PMO’s new complex, earlier called the ‘Executive Enclave’, will be named ‘Seva Teerth’. Besides housing the PMO, it will accommodate key national security offices. The name emphasises service and governance, aligning with the meaning of ‘seva’ and ‘teerth’.

U.S. deported 3,258 Indian nationals in 2025, highest since 2009

EAM Jaishankar informed Parliament that 3,258 Indians were deported from the U.S. in 2025, the highest since 2009. Many travelled on regular flights, while some were in ICE custody. He raised concerns about mistreatment allegations and clarified procedures regarding deportations and visa decisions.


Parliament approves Bill to levy excise duty on tobacco

Parliament passed the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025, imposing higher excise duty on tobacco products after the GST compensation cess ends. Nirmala Sitharaman said the duty structure ensures continued revenue and health considerations while keeping the transition smooth for states.


DMK questions hybrid title of Health cess Bill

DMK MP T. Sumathy opposed the title ‘Health Security Cess Bill’, saying it injects cultural-linguistic elements into what should be a neutral statutory title. She raised concerns over GST-like tax burdens and questioned the Centre’s framing of health-related legislation.


Minister says 4.8 crore cases are pending in lower courts

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said 4.8 crore cases are pending in district and subordinate courts, with 90,694 awaiting trial in the Supreme Court. Uttar Pradesh has the highest pendency and the most judicial vacancies, highlighting systemic strain across the judiciary.


India cuts Russian oil imports by 38% in October

India’s Russian crude imports fell sharply by 38% in value and 31% in volume in October 2025 due to high base effect and tariff impacts. Russia still supplies about 32% of India’s oil, though imports fluctuate amid sanctions and pricing shifts.

Judges are conscious, won’t let AI overpower judicial process: SC

The Supreme Court said it is aware of risks from generative AI, warning against its use for judicial decisions due to possibilities of hallucinations, biased outputs, and fake judgments. The court stressed that AI cannot replace human adjudication and judicial responsibility.

As crisis continues, govt. imposes cap on airfares
The government capped domestic airfares, set refund timelines, and announced special trains as IndiGo slowly restored operations after major cancellations. IndiGo expects full recovery by December 15. DGCA issued a show-cause notice to the CEO. Fare caps range from ₹7,500 to ₹18,000.


U.S. team to visit India next week to discuss tariffs for bilateral trade agreement

A U.S. delegation will visit India from December 10–12 to negotiate tariffs under the proposed trade agreement. Talks will focus on reducing strong tariff disputes after U.S. duties on Indian goods. This round is informal but aims to progress negotiations.

NGO in Rajasthan targets 38 districts to end child marriage

A civil society network selected 38 high-risk districts to eliminate child marriage using awareness campaigns, community engagement, and legal interventions. Chittorgarh and Bhilwara show over 40% prevalence. The initiative, backed by government and NGOs, aims for year-long mobilisation to protect girls’ rights.

Rajasthan first State to digitise 100% of voter rolls under SIR

Rajasthan completed digitisation of its entire electoral roll under the Special Intensive Revision process, becoming India’s first State to do so. Over 97% voter mapping is done, easing verification and reducing errors. Final rolls will be published by December 16.

India emerging as a major hub of renewable energy: Joshi

India added 31.25 GW of renewable energy this year, including 24.28 GW solar, marking rapid transition from fossil fuels. Solar capacity has grown 4,500% in 11 years. Prahlad Joshi highlighted Odisha’s growing role and large-scale rooftop solar adoption under Central schemes.
