He failed six subjects in his first year of college, while his peers moved ahead in life.
Family pressure mounted, comparisons grew louder, and his own confidence began to crumble.
But somewhere between late-night self-doubt and early morning dreams, a new goal took shape — joining the Armed Forces.
What followed was not just a story of preparation, but of transformation, introspection, and relentless perseverance.
This is the journey of how Mayank turned rejections into realizations and walked the path from screen-outs to All India Rank 15.

Background
Meet Mayank, the youngest in his family, a boy from Delhi with dreams that once seemed distant and unreachable. Sports were his first love—badminton, cricket, and the adrenaline of travel. But academics? Not quite. After scoring 90% in 10th, things took a dip. His 12th board scores dropped to 73%. The reason? An energetic, playful spirit who didn’t fit into traditional molds of "study hard, get a good college." When he couldn’t crack competitive entrance exams, he secured a seat at IP University through management quota. But college wasn’t easy either. In his first year, he failed six subjects. Travel, sports, and distractions were still in the driver’s seat. And family pressure started building. His siblings were thriving, but Mayank seemed stuck. Eventually, he cleared his backlogs and pulled his aggregate to 78.8%.Still, at the end of 2022, he felt empty.
A New Dream Emerges
Inspired by his elder sister who serves in the Military Nursing Service (MNS), Mayank found new purpose—to join the Armed Forces.
He gave his all—late-night study sessions, sleepless preparation, but the reality was harsh. Two failed CDS attempts, only two written clearances out of four AFCAT tries, and three consecutive SSB screen-outs.
Nothing seemed to be working.
“I had no clue what was going wrong. Getting screened in itself felt like an impossible dream.”
Learning, Unlearning, and Rebuilding
For the next 8 months, Mayank turned inward. He started observing successful candidates, learning from YouTube, and slowly began understanding one core lesson:“Nervousness ruins your game. If something hampers your performance, it’s better to drop it.”
That’s when he came across R2R on a Telegram channel.
Doubts, Conversations, and a Leap of Faith
He had his doubts, after all, R2R was an online course, and Mayank had never tried structured online learning before. But after multiple conversations with Shashank Sir, something shifted.
“Agar tujhe lagta hai tera ek bhi rupee waste hua, main tere paise wapas kar dunga.”
That was the reassurance he needed. He joined. And everything changed.
The R2R Impact
“Sir didn’t just teach me OLQs. He taught me to understand myself. My thoughts, my emotions, my past. I began introspecting on a whole new level.”
Mayank recalls how he started asking deeper questions:
Who am I?
What are my core values?
Where am I moral? Where do I need growth?
He even asked his friends to list his weaknesses. He started journaling daily, tracking habits, mindset changes, and every lesson learned. The transformation wasn’t just external—it was from within.
The Turning Point: SSC Tech 64
With calm confidence and a renewed mindset, Mayank appeared for SSC Tech 64 (Electrical) at Bhopal.
What Kept Him Going?
Today, Mayank says with pride—
“SSB ke baare mei sab kuch seekha maine sir se – calmness, trust building, being real… aur sabse zaroori, apne aap ko samajhna.”
Sometimes, what you're looking for isn’t just coaching—it's clarity.
