15 Attempts, One Breakthrough: How Ashish Sharma Found His Way to a Double Recommendation

For many SSB aspirants, the journey isn’t linear. It’s full of retries, self-doubt, brief highs, and long phases of questioning whether they’re doing something fundamentally wrong. Ashish Sharma’s journey reflects exactly that reality.
Hailing from
Narnaul, Haryana—a city now known for India’s first skydiving location—Ashish completed his schooling in Jaipur. But long before SSBs, entries, and attempts became part of his life, one influence quietly shaped his mindset at home: his father.
Having served
28 years in the Indian Army, Ashish grew up watching what discipline, duty, and consistency truly look like. Seeing his father in uniform didn’t just spark admiration—it instilled a focused way of thinking. Joining the Armed Forces wasn’t about excitement alone; it was about living up to values he had seen every day.

“After a point, failure in SSB isn’t about effort. It’s about direction.”

When Effort Wasn’t the Problem

By the time Ashish appeared for multiple SSBs, effort was never in question. He had already faced 15 attempts. What troubled him most was Psychology.

Like many aspirants, he felt that his thoughts were genuine—but somehow, they weren’t translating well on paper. Responses felt incomplete. Stories didn’t reflect what he actually wanted to convey. Despite preparation, something essential was missing.

That’s when he joined R2R.

The Shift: Looking Inward Before Writing Outward

From the very first psych lectures with Shashank Sir, Ashish realised something important—before expressing thoughts and emotions in Psych, one must introspect deeply.

The focus wasn’t on “writing better answers,” but on understanding:

  • Why you think the way you do
  • What truly drives your reactions
  • Where you need to work on yourself

The one-to-one feedback sessions played a crucial role. Slowly, Ashish began improving how he articulated:

  • TAT stories
  • WAT responses
  • SRT decision-making

More importantly, he noticed something change internally. His responses began reflecting clarity, not confusion. Self-understanding improved, and with it, confidence.

Practice, Clarity, and Consistency

What Ashish didn’t do was look for shortcuts. He consistently practiced the insights he gained—especially around expressing emotions honestly and structuring responses naturally.

Over time, Psych stopped feeling like a hurdle. It became a reflection of who he was.

Ashish believes this clarity and direction ultimately led to his success.

The Outcome That Followed

Ashish Sharma achieved something many aspirants only dream of:

  • Recommended for SSC (NT)-122 from 24 SSB, Bengaluru
  • Recommended for AFCAT 1 2025 from 4 AFSB, Varanasi

A double recommendation, earned not by changing himself—but by understanding himself better.

A Message Every Aspirant Needs to Hear

Ashish’s message is simple yet powerful:

Consistency and tenacious effort in the right direction always pays. Sometimes, you just need a guide to help you see that direction clearly.

SSB preparation isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing right. And for many aspirants, the turning point comes when preparation shifts from external validation to internal clarity.

Ashish found that turning point at R2R.

And for aspirants still searching—his journey quietly asks an important question:
Are you working harder… or are you working clearer?
