In a world where most people give up after one or two setbacks, Shatrujit’s story is a rare tale of persistence, self-reflection, and transformation. His dream of joining the armed forces wasn’t built overnight—it was ignited by a chance encounter, shaped by countless rejections, and fulfilled by unshakable determination.

“It should have happened, but it didn’t because it would when it should.”
– Shatrujit, after cracking his SSB in the 10th attempt
The Beginning: A Dream Sparked by a Beret
In 2019, during a visit to his relatives in Agra, something unforgettable happened. Shatrujit met a soldier from the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Army. The maroon beret and uniform left a mark on his heart—that was the moment he knew what he wanted to do with his life.
Soon after, he gave his first NDA attempt. Like many others, he faced rejection—a conference out. But instead of feeling defeated, it gave him a taste of what lay ahead and pushed him deeper into this journey.
Switching Paths, Holding the Same Dream
Unable to give the NDA again due to age, he chose to pursue engineering, opening doors to technical entries like SSC Tech. During the pandemic, he even prepared for NEET aiming for AFMC and missed the cutoff by just 9 marks. That too didn’t stop him.
For two years straight, he chased every possible route—CDS, AFCAT, IMA, technical entries—facing rejection after rejection. By now, he had been conferenced out nine times.
Self-Realization and a New Approach
“I was doing everything I could… but somehow, I wasn’t being true to myself.”
That was a turning point. He reflected on why he wasn’t getting recommended. He used to copy others' psych answers, show off during GTOs, and lose authenticity in interviews. He realized he needed clarity, guidance, and a change in mindset.
This is when R2R entered the scene.
Meeting His Mentor: Shashank Sir
Shatrujit enrolled in R2R’s psych, GTO, and interview courses. Initially skeptical about online coaching, he quickly realized that the depth of explanation, personal feedback, and structured learning made a huge difference.
“Shashank Sir never felt like a teacher. He felt like an elder brother—someone who truly wanted me to succeed.”
Through daily tasks, regular feedback, and intense group practices, he started transforming. His psych stories became authentic, his GTO teamwork improved, and his interview responses became sharper and more honest.
Fixing What Was Missing
His biggest challenge? GTO. Being an introvert, he struggled with opening up in group tasks.
But with consistent practice in R2R's simulated GTO setups, he began to express ideas confidently, support others, and focus on the true spirit of teamwork.
“Earlier, I wanted the spotlight. In my 10th attempt, I wanted the group to succeed, and that made all the difference.”
The Breakthrough
In February 2025, the breakthrough finally came.
Shatrujit got recommended for Navy Tech. Shortly after, he cracked SSC Tech at 34 SSB, Allahabad for the Army. His 10th attempt turned into his most honest and least desperate one—and it worked.
The Motivation That Kept Him Going
On his study table sat a maroon beret and a Balidaan badge—not as trophies, but as symbols of a dream not yet fulfilled.“Whenever I saw them, I reminded myself—let’s try one more time.”
Despite everything—exams, engineering, rejections—he never let go of that dream.
His Message to Other Aspirants
“Hoga zarur. Bas jab tak nahi hota, keep going.”
Shatrujit reminds every defence aspirant that rejection isn’t the end—it’s feedback. That real growth happens when you understand who you truly are and align that with the process.
What Made the Difference
What changed in the 10th attempt?
