  1. Murder & Violent Crimes
    • In 2022, India registered 28,522 murder cases, averaging 78 murders per day (~3 per hour).
    • Murder rate stood at 2.1 per 100,000 people.
    • Top motives: “Dispute” (~9,962 cases), followed by personal vendetta and financial gain.
  2. Overall Crime Statistics
    • In 2023, India saw ~59.24 lakh cognizable cases, down ~2.3% from ~60.63 lakh in 2022.
    • Crime rate dropped from 445.9 (2022) to 427.4 (2023) per 100,000 people.
    • However, some sources report a rise to 6.24 million cases and a crime rate of 448.3 in 2023, indicating possible data discrepancies.
  3. Cybercrime & Financial Frauds
    • In 2024, India recorded ~36 lakh cybercrime/fraud cases.
    • Citizens lost an estimated ₹22,845 crore to cybercrimes.
    • Phishing, identity theft, SIM frauds, and financial scams are surging.

    • NCB seizures in 2024 totaled ₹25,330 crore, a ~55% increase over 2023.
    • Synthetic drugs (e.g., ATS) saw sharp rises in seizures.
    • Drone-assisted smuggling is escalating—179 drone-related drug cases in 2024, with Punjab alone accounting for 163.

  • State-wise variation is stark—some states report much higher rates of rape, theft, and violent assaults.
